Basic Is Good: 15 Amazon Basics Items That You Need

Remember when American Apparel was huge? I mean, it hasn’t been that long. When it was hot, I remember I would be willing to spend $60 on a basic bodysuit (that probably only cost $2 to make). But I think it spoke to the beauty of minimalism and the elegance of simplicity. The price didn’t exactly jive that well with me, but I got the allure of it. The allure of minimalism.

As I’m designing the new home Dave and I are renovating, it’s been a process of accumulating only what we need, and not necessarily everything that we see and want. It becomes really easy to accumulate junk. And for shopaholics like myself, it’s even easier.

But I’m determined to achieve that minimalist, basic lifestyle and a home to match it. And when done right, minimalism in the home and in life can be super cost effective. One of the allies in my journey to a minimalist lifestyle has been Amazon… not only because you can basically find anything and everything you want (I’ve literally made my cart my curated inspiration board), but because you can find those life basics… with a basic cost.

I first got introduced to AmazonBasics a couple months ago (I never even knew it existed before then). It reminded me a lot of the branding from American Apparel. That allure and elegance came straight back with it. And so since then, I’ve been meticulously tracking all of the new items that come up from their AmazonBasics collection… not only because they’re “minimalistic”, but because their quality and cost ratio is muy bueno.

I’ve listed some of my favourite AmazonBasics here – some that I’ve already picked up and some that are shamelessly sitting in my cart, waiting to be purchased.

AmazonBasics For Photography

AmazonBasics Lightweight Mini Tripod ($9)

For vlogging, resting your camera, or home videos, this mini tripod under $10 has made my life making videos SO much easier. It’s super light, so no need to slug Dave’s gigantor DSLR tripod with us everywhere. And for under $10, you can’t really go wrong!

AmazonBasics 67-Inch Monopod ($19)

You know those really well stabilized videos people create in weird spots where you can’t fit a tripod? That’s because of this little gadget here called a monopod. And for less than $20, it’s definitely worth giving it a shot and learning how to use it!

AmazonBasics 60-Inch Tripod ($31)

The best bang for your buck. If you don’t have one of these in your kit, this is an incredible one to try, lightweight, sturdy, and less than $40, you won’t find this deal anywhere.

AmazonBasics Floating Hand Grip ($5)

FIVE DOLLAS. Seriously, you can’t get better than this. And you know those half in water, half out of water shots that Youtubers are killing it at? This little device will help you achieve that. For $5, I could barely believe my eyes. If you have a GoPro, you need this in your kit. And for $5, girl, you have nothing to lose.

AmazonBasics Head Strap ($10)

Dave and I had bought one of these straight from GoPro before and we lost it on one of our trips. We ended up picking this one up (for $10, we figured, why not), and it’s honestly just as good. If you want those POV video shots, this is for you!

AmazonBasics Portable Photo Studio ($170)

For an incredibly small fraction of the price, this portable studio elevates your production to basically a pro. If you’re an e-commerce store, a blogger, or just like to have awesome product photography, this is a must-have. And for significantly less than buying lights, backdrops, reflectors, etc., it’s a serious steal.
