Basic Is Good: 15 Amazon Basics Items That You Need

Remember when American Apparel was huge? I mean, it hasn’t been that long. When it was hot, I remember I would be willing to spend $60 on a basic bodysuit (that probably only cost $2 to make). But I think it spoke to the beauty of minimalism and the elegance of simplicity. The price didn’t exactly jive that well with me, but I got the allure of it. The allure of minimalism.

As I’m designing the new home Dave and I are renovating, it’s been a process of accumulating only what we need, and not necessarily everything that we see and want. It becomes really easy to accumulate junk. And for shopaholics like myself, it’s even easier.

But I’m determined to achieve that minimalist, basic lifestyle and a home to match it. And when done right, minimalism in the home and in life can be super cost effective. One of the allies in my journey to a minimalist lifestyle has been Amazon… not only because you can basically find anything and everything you want (I’ve literally made my cart my curated inspiration board), but because you can find those life basics… with a basic cost.

I first got introduced to AmazonBasics a couple months ago (I never even knew it existed before then). It reminded me a lot of the branding from American Apparel. That allure and elegance came straight back with it. And so since then, I’ve been meticulously tracking all of the new items that come up from their AmazonBasics collection… not only because they’re “minimalistic”, but because their quality and cost ratio is muy bueno.

I’ve listed some of my favourite AmazonBasics here – some that I’ve already picked up and some that are shamelessly sitting in my cart, waiting to be purchased.

AmazonBasics For Photography

AmazonBasics Lightweight Mini Tripod ($9)

For vlogging, resting your camera, or home videos, this mini tripod under $10 has made my life making videos SO much easier. It’s super light, so no need to slug Dave’s gigantor DSLR tripod with us everywhere. And for under $10, you can’t really go wrong!

AmazonBasics 67-Inch Monopod ($19)

You know those really well stabilized videos people create in weird spots where you can’t fit a tripod? That’s because of this little gadget here called a monopod. And for less than $20, it’s definitely worth giving it a shot and learning how to use it!

AmazonBasics 60-Inch Tripod ($31)

The best bang for your buck. If you don’t have one of these in your kit, this is an incredible one to try, lightweight, sturdy, and less than $40, you won’t find this deal anywhere.

AmazonBasics Floating Hand Grip ($5)

FIVE DOLLAS. Seriously, you can’t get better than this. And you know those half in water, half out of water shots that Youtubers are killing it at? This little device will help you achieve that. For $5, I could barely believe my eyes. If you have a GoPro, you need this in your kit. And for $5, girl, you have nothing to lose.

AmazonBasics Head Strap ($10)

Dave and I had bought one of these straight from GoPro before and we lost it on one of our trips. We ended up picking this one up (for $10, we figured, why not), and it’s honestly just as good. If you want those POV video shots, this is for you!

AmazonBasics Portable Photo Studio ($170)

For an incredibly small fraction of the price, this portable studio elevates your production to basically a pro. If you’re an e-commerce store, a blogger, or just like to have awesome product photography, this is a must-have. And for significantly less than buying lights, backdrops, reflectors, etc., it’s a serious steal.

AmazonBasics For The Home & Simba

Pinzon Hypoallergenic Down Comforter ($45)

Dave has been bugging me to get a better comforter for our bed. And for less than $50, honestly I don’t even think Ikea can beat this.

Pinzon 400-Thread-Count Egyptian Cotton Sheets ($70)

Nothing screams beautiful minimalistic house like beautiful white sheets. And for less than $100, you literally feel like a King sleeping in these. I haven’t been able to find Egyptian cotton sheets for less than this… anywhere.

AmazonBasics Metal Monitor Stand ($17)

When you’re working on a laptop all day, your neck gets pretty sore. This handy and beautifully crafted stand has saved Dave from a lot of neck massages.

AmazonBasics Soft Sided Pet Carrier ($37)

If you have a pet, you know how freaking expensive accessories for them can be. We’ve hesitated from buying Simba one of these because of that. But for less than $40, Simba can feel like a king, and we finally decided to spoil him.

AmazonBasics Dog Waste Bag (900 Pack)

Basically good to last him the year. For $20, you literally don’t have to buy doggie bags for the entire year. WHAT?! mind. blown.

AmazonBasics On The Go

AmazonBasics Classic Backpack ($22)

These backpacks have never been more in style. And they’re timeless. I’ve been looking for a cute classic white backpack for a while, and for less then $25, I have a sturdy and stylish accessory. SOLD.

AmazonBasics Laptop and Tablet Bag ($12)

Logo-less, clean, and chic. This laptop bag is the perfect laptop accessory for the minimalist professional. And less than $15? Seriously. I’ll take 5.

AmazonBasics Felt Sleeve ($13)

I don’t even have a tablet. But this beautifully styled pouch is so cute and trendy. And for $13, I decided to splurge on myself. I keep my make up in here instead.

AmazonBasics Stylus ($11)

I’ve been looking for one of these that works well forever. And this one fits so well in our hand, you’re basically holding a pen. Cute IG Story designs coming your way because of it!

Those are all of my favourite finds from AmazonBasics, but honestly there’s tons to browse through for basically whatever you’re looking for. I love the clean designs and focus on quality… not to mention the incredible prices. And so Amazon continues to serve up fiyah.

Let me know if you like these lists. For me, they’re an awesome round up of the goodies you can find on Amazon. I spend hours on the site scouring to fill my next shopping cart, so I figured I would share my well kept secrets with you! Let me know in the comments if you want to keep seeing them!

Happy bargain-deal shopping friends!
