3 Ways To Get Ready & Get Inspired For Spring

Because it should be spring already shouldn’t it?! As much as it might still be chilly in Toronto right now, I’m getting into the full spring swing (quite the poet aren’t I? haha). All jokes aside, I love the feeling that spring brings around. It almost feels like another “new year” celebration. It’s an opportunity to re-blossom with the flowers, start days earlier, get affairs in order, and jump into the warmer months with full speed ahead.

I used to think of spring as a way to revamp my wardrobe and that was about it. But since purchasing our home, staying in more, and actually spending time in the kitchen (who am I?!), I’ve noticed that there’s so much more to “getting ready for spring”. It’s all pretty new to me to be quite honest. So, in true Mel Inspired fashion, I’ve been hitting up my Pinterest boards, but also, my favourite retailers to get inspiration.
For those of you that follow me on Instagram, you’ll know that I’m a huge fan of the Loblaw family of retailers and my PC World Elite Mastercard. If you’re unfamiliar with the card or PC Optimum Points (where have you been?!), it earns you 3x the points for every dollar you spend at Loblaw affiliate stores and 45 points per dollar at Shoppers Drug Marts. You also earn 10 points for every other dollar you spend everywhere else, and the best part? There’s absolutely no annual fees, which seriously makes a good thing even better.

Collecting my points on groceries, home decor, and even wardrobe updates has been amazing because I get to redeem those points right back for those exact things. And if there’s anything I’ve learnt, adulting is all about serious budgeting.

3 WAYS

To Get You, Your Home, And Your Style Ready For Spring

So, from my organizing, to my closet, to the kitchen, here are the 3 ways and tips to get yourself into the spring vibe (featuring some of my favourite PC products I picked up with my PC World Elite Mastercard):

1

FUN ORGANIZING

What I’ve realized is that it is SO easy to make mess and clutter. In fact, it had begun just a couple days into our new kitchen. After causing me major anxiety, Dave and I wandered into our neighbourhood Real Canadian Superstore and fell in love with some of these organizational and home decor products. It made coming home and sorting everything out so much more fun!

Tips For Organizing

  • Find pieces that go with your home aesthetic that will get you get excited about using them
  • Look for spaces in your home that are unused and find storage that fits there to maximize your space
  • Don’t be afraid of different textures and statement pieces, like these gorgeous wooden crates
  • Categorize items you need to store before buying anything to make sure you’re finding the right sized storage containers for what you need
  • This is in every single one of my home-based tips, but…. measure, measure, measure!

SPRING INTO A NEW WARDROBE
Featuring Cover Up Dress (Joe Fresh)

What gets a girl more excited about spring than new spring styles for her to wear, right?! Well, that definitely goes for me! Since getting my new walk-in closet all set up, I’ve tried to be more particular with the pieces I bring into it!

Tips For Spring Style

  • Go for prints! It’s spring! Even if it’s not a colourful print, it’ll add some flare to your otherwise drabby winter clothing
  • Find pieces that are versatile. I’m obsessed with this new Joe Fresh dress that doubles as both a swimsuit cover-up, as well as a flowy spring dress over a slip.
  • Find fabrics that are breathable, but also layerable. You’ll need this on those chillier spring days and those summer hot ones.
  • Make sure to make room for your new pieces (this is the hardest part for me). Purge the pieces you’re never wearing!

FRESH SPRING COOKING

I mean, I have to start somewhere… so I’m considering this cooking haha But nothing says spring to me like a fresh summer guac/avo-spread. Who doesn’t love a good avo-toast right?

Tips For Spring Avo-Spread/Dip

  • When you’re pitting your avocados, keep the pit and put it back in the spread. It’ll keep your avocado from browning as quickly!
  • Don’t skip out on the chips. It’ll add flavour! I’m obssessed with the PC Chickpea Tortilla Chips.
  • Find a cute serving platter to make your avo really pop. I picked this palm-adorned one from PC and it always reminds me of warmer days when I look at it

The best part about our spring revamp has definitely been collecting the points on everything we’ve been buying (we almost make it a game now – just how many points can we collect? haha). I love that between groceries, to home decor, to my beauty must-haves, I’m collecting PC Optimum points on it all! A girl’s got a budget to keep and I’m getting ready to redeem up!

I’m using spring to start fresh – with my home, my style, and as you’ve witnessed, my cooking (I’m learning, I’m learning!). I feel like I should say something like Happy New Years! (which doesn’t make sense), so Happy New Spring! friends!  I hope it’s starting to look like a great one for you!
