4 Things To Look For In A Perfect Fall Coat

Fall is finally upon on friends! And like all other style and fashion bloggers, I could not wait for fall. I’ll admit that we don’t get a very fall season here in Toronto. We basically receive summer, a couple sprinkles of fall weather, and BAM, it’s winter. Nevertheless, it’s my favourite season for fashion.

There’s just something about falling leaves, hot apple cider, Thanksgiving, and the brisk walks that makes it my favourite season.

And finding the perfect fall coat for all the above is a prerequisite. I’ve collected quite the collection of fall coats over the season, but every year, I always look for a new staple to add to the team. I also find that my fall coats turn into spring coats too (that transitional coat vibe, yknow), so they’re totally worth the investment.

I found my perfect fall coat in this Glen Check Viscose Blend Trench Coat from my friends at Le Chateau. They had so many options, I won’t lie, it was hard to choose just one; but this one caught my eye as soon as I walked into the store. There’s a couple reasons for that.

When I’m looking for that elusive perfect fall coat, here are the 4 things I make sure to look for that I found in this coat.

1) Layer-ability

Fall and the approaching colder seasons is all about layering. It’s what gets me from day-time meetings and a 10 degree drop by night fall for drinks with friends. You want to make sure you pick a coat that you can layer with a sweater, a t-shirt, and a chunky scarf. I always go for a size up so that I can throw a ton of layers underneath. When you’re the in the store, it’s easy to forget that the weather outside isn’t quite as forgiving.

2) The Perfect Print

The checkered print is all the range this season. I’m totally into the trend, but above the trendiness, I also think print and checkers are timeless. They’re a print that never really goes out of style and adds that extra stylistic element to your fall outfits.

3) Versatile Length

When you’re looking for the perfect fall coat, length is super important. You want to make sure it’s a length that looks great with jeans, but also one that with keep your stems cozy when you’re baring them in a skirt or skirt. There have been so many days I’ve regretted not buying the longer version of a coat. This one hits the perfect length right above the knee so that it still looks off a nice high boot, but keeps my legs warm in a mini.

4) Comfort

You know I couldn’t not put this on the list. Comfort is totally #1. If something isn’t comfortable, you’re definitely not wearing it again. And your fall coat has to be versatile – it needs to be thrown on top of everything. I love finding fall coats with materials that have some flex to them. This one from Le Chateau has the perfect amount of stretch to it without losing its cool structure.

Styling Notes:

Style your perfect checkered, comfy, mid-length coat with a tshirt and jeans, or perhaps even a leather mini emoji I love wearing a white T with my fall looks. Something about it screams comfy-chic.

I also love adorning my white T with a layer of my favourite necklaces, which includes this new zodiac gold pendant from my friends at Mejuri (I’m a Libra), and brushed circle pendant from my friends at Le Chateau. Topped it all off with some wide circular frames and this Wool Jockey hat (that totally screams fall), also from my friends at Le Chateau.

For your soles, I love pairing my fall coats up with a perfect bootie, but while the weather it warm, I’m making the most of it. Paired it up here with some fishnets (scored on the low low from my friends at Le Chateau) and some chunky Celine-looking heels from Zara.

For an extra little flare, add a belt underneath that you can also wear over your coat. Belting your coat is an awesome way to change up its look from day to day. The belt I’m wearing is a super affordable option, at $25, also from my friends at Le Chateau.

Here are some other super affordable perfect fall coat options I’m also loving:

Here’s to frolicking in the colourful leaves, to drinking cider by a fireplace, and going for long fall walks. I hope you’re all having an amazing start to the season friends!
