Flats V.S. Heels (Ft. My New ShoeMe Collection)

The heels v.s. flats debate is a hot one. It’s not like solving world hunger or anything, but it poses as quite the little conundrum when you’re styling an outfit. With the warm weather finally approaching, I tend to look towards my shoe closet that’s been gathering dust over the winter months (let’s be serious, I’m not wearing any of my badass shoes in salt and snow). But as soon as I gander over, I’m torn – torn between my flats and my heels. It seems like the most superficial problem to have, but trust me, I’ve got a point to all of this.

My flats are typically reserved for a purpose – I’ve got beach flats, shopping flats, emergency flats, sneakers (which I consider “flats”), etc, etc. They’re versatile AF, right?! My heels, on the other hand, are showstoppers – they jazz everything up, they’re sexy, they give me confidence, and they scream female empowerment. And when there’s a specific occasion for heels, I wear heels, and where there’s a situation for flats, I wear flats… but there are those times, those times where you really don’t know which to choose, and where each definitely has its benefits.

E.g. heading out to a girls sushi dinner. I know I’m taking the subway so my stilettos are out of the question. I still have to walk about 1 km from the subway station, so flats are looking pretty damn fine right about now. It is, however, a Saturday night… and I’ve been working my ass off all week… and I want to show off some sexy sway. We also might go out to a party afterwards and flats might make me feel a bit frumpy. GARGGHHH. #TheProblem

So are you a heels or a flats person? Not that you have to decide one that defines you, but in that situation, which do you choose? Flats for comfort (you know I’m all about comfort), or heels for confidence (which I also prioritize over everything). Before you ask, no, I don’t have an answer for you emoji

I just figured I would throw the question out there to see what you thought. I always end up choosing one and somehow life always makes me wish I had worn the other (grass is always greener right?).

Iwon’t lie, I definitely have more heels than I do flats… for completely superficial reasons (let’s be honest, heels typically shoot better than flats – make your legs look longer, elevate a look, yada yada). I am a blogger after all. I’ll admit it.

I think part of it is that I never invested in nice flats though. Flats always came second to those impressive heels you saw on the shelf. They’ve got more sex appeal right? So it makes sense. This season, I decided to invest in more flats – flats that I would actually wear and not just forget I have.

My search started as soon as it started getting warmer and all of it obviously happened in the wonderful world we know as… online emoji Checking out all my go-to shoe sources, my strategy, as always, is right click > new tab > right click > new tab (so I wouldn’t lose my spot where I was scrolling through). I was looking at my never-ending row of tabs and realized… damn it, now I have to sort through all of these tabs. I’m probably the most indecisive person in the world and I always wish that I could share my tabs with you so you could help me choose.

Coincidentally, I was chatting with my friends at ShoeMe (one of my go-to-shoe-sources), and we decided to work on a “Mel Inspired” curated collection on their site. It was like a lightbulb went off! You can all finally help me choose (and maybe pick a couple of my picks up yourself so we can be twinning emoji). I’m still adding picks to it as I go but here are some of the soles on my radar right now. You can click below to head to the collection or enter: http://shoeme.ca/mel-inspired in your browser! There’s also a ton on sale throughout their entire site… aka COME SHOPPING WITH ME haha because you know I’ve already got 20 tabs open monkey emoji

I’ve already crossed off the Black Birkenstocks, Hardy Design Boots, and Dolce Vita slides off the list… but with an ever growing wish list, it’s like a never ending season of smiles for my feet. These flats have seriously elevated my flat-collection already. Styling them was so easy – I threw on some ripped jeans, turtle neck bodysuit (from Le Chateau) layered with a knit sweater, some necklaces (choker from Le Chateau, horn necklace from Jewel Rue), slid on my slides and I was good to go!

I picked up these Dolce Vita flats recently (because I wanted a minimalistic neutral slide that wasn’t black), but I’m on the search for my next treat for my feet (cheesy pun definitely intended). Head to the collection and tell me which ones I should pick up next and which ones you’d want to buy!
