How To Get The Most Out Of Your Holiday Purchases

The holiday season is a lot of great things, but let’s not kid ourselves, it’s also a pretty pricey time of year. Did you know that Canadians actually spend an average of about $1500 during the holiday season?! I mean, it’s all about giving, hosting, and celebrating, for sure… but it’s definitely one of those times in the year when we let loose of our budgets.

When I crunch my numbers in January, it does get a little daunting – but I’ve learned a couple tips and tricks over the holiday season’s past, and realized that there’s definitely ways to “optimize” your spending.

One of those ways is making sure your financial partners are in tip-top shape. And when I mean tip-top shape, I mean that you’re choosing the best credit cards, banking, and kickbacks that get you the most out of your spending. I’m a huge fan of collecting points (I’ve travelled on them, I’ve gotten free products I’ve needed, and I’ve definitely saved some moula); so I’m always on the lookout for the new card that’s going to get me the biggest bang for my buck.

I never find easy-to-understand reviews about this on the blogs and magazines I love… so I’m sharing a little financial spin on my holiday shopping this year:

Points For The Things That Matter
PC Financial World Elite Mastercard

I had the chance to attend PC Financial’s Holiday event recently and learnt all about the PC Financial World Elite Mastercard. I currently carry about 3 credit cards in my wallet but this one is certainly winning my heart over.

Dave and I almost exclusively shop at PC and Loblaw affiliate stores (for groceries, for home furnishings, and for all my beauty needs). So the fact that you earn 3x the points at these stories, that you can then use to pay for your next round of shopping is perfect for our lifestyle.

I’m seriously considering picking up this credit card and am definitely kicking myself that I finished so much of my holiday shopping without it.

So, what are the benefits of the PC Financial World Elite Mastercard?

  1. No Annual Fee – this is a big one for me. I pay on average about $100 for each of my credit cards right now
  2. 30x PC Points per $1 – so every dollar I spend on groceries, I’m getting 30 points back. That’s a ton of points.
  3. 30x PC Points per $1.50 at Shoppers – I buy almost all of my beauty and life necessities at Shoppers… it’s a lot
  4. Esso Bonus of $0.03 per litre in PC points – as much as I subway most places, Dave and I drive to visit our parents out of the city and love taking road trips and this would definitely come in handy
  5. 10 PC Points per $1 everywhere else – I mean, each and every dollar? Boom.

Playing a Little Game of Collect The Points

I’m always really hesitant about signing up for new credit cards; but honestly, I put this card and its benefits to the test. They happened to have a ton of products at the event that I personally either: buy all the time, have bought in the past, or are planning to buy soon. Here’s how my points would rack up if I had the PC Financial World Elite Mastercard

Since I was young, I remember my dad saying: “Work smart, not hard” and optimizing my credit cards for my lifestyle has been key in doing that. It’s saved me money, time, and definitely proved to be an incredibly important part of my finances. Buying a house recently has made this all the more important (that mortgage though), so there’s nothing I love more than saving an extra dollar.

If you’re a points lover too, I would definitely check out the PC Financial World Elite Mastercard. Because there’s nothing better than a luxe, but well planned, season of holiday shopping friends! To joyful hearts… and joyful wallets this season!
