Ideas To Appreciate Yo Mama On Mother’s Day

Baby heads are pretty damn big… and your mom pushed your big baby head out of her. And now you’ve grown into a boss babe and, hopefully, making your mama gleam with pride. Maybe you’re now a mama/expecting mama too. It’s pretty crazy how life circles through, doesn’t it?

As much as life changes throughout the ages, one thing will always remain true: your mom will always be your mom, and she’ll always have a sort of love for you that’s incomparable to anything else. You might not always get along, she might be the person who pisses you off most in the world, or maybe you’re best friends… either way, she’s your mom (and her vagina will never be the same as before she had you! so APPRECIATE)

Mother’s Day is 1 day in the year that reminds us to remember this. Really, we should be doing it everyday because being a mom (and a grandma) is a sacrifice. All you mama bloggers know this and it always amazes me all the craziness that’s involved in having children. I hope to have kids one day, but until then, I won’t pretend to understand the hard work and gut-wrenching sacrifices you have to make as a mom. What I can chime in on is that appreciating your mom is something that makes you a better person too. When you’re rooted in love, it stems much further than just your family. It shows in everything you do, the choices you make, and how you carry yourself.

I won’t say that I’ve been the best at this. I was quite the smart-ass growing up; but as you grow up, you realize how it important it is to respect and appreciate where you came from. So cheers to the mamas out there! May you see your chicks fly the coup, smile with pride, and then head to Zumba, shopping, and spas because you damn deserve it.

To all you children with mamas and grandmamas (and in my case great-grandmamas), take this chance to remember and show some love, no matter how old you are. And if you’re all out of ideas, I gotchu! Here’s a round up of some sweet gestures and fun things to do to tell your mama… GIRL, YOU DA BEST AND I LOVE YA (thank you for pushing me out of your belly)!

mani

Give your mom a bit of pampering with a stay at home mani-pedi sesh. Doing it at a salon is great too but she’ll appreciate the conversation, laughs, and fun of doing each other’s nails… more than just the manicure itself. Kiss Nails products make it really easy – with press on nails (that actually stick), all the nail art tools you need, and fun ways to customize each other’s look. It’ll mean more because you guys did them together! If you’re a mama yourself, this can be an awesome tradition to start with your little girl! Maybe you can even get the hubby involved emoji

brunch

Brunch is probably the perfect celebratory meal. Something about a mid-morning bite, the perfect light streaming into a cafe, and a couple great cups of lattes makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. And you definitely want to make your mama feel warm and fuzzy on Mother’s Day. I’m heading to brunch with my mama at Mildred’s Temple (Toronto). If you’re in TDot, some amazing brunch places you can try hitting up are: Saturday’s Dinette, Colette, Brownstone Bistro, and The Depanneur. Brunch seems to inspire the best conversations and you can reminisce all the crazy things you put your mama through over the years over it. Make sure you include several “thank yous” and “i love yous” wink emoji

shopping

If there’s one thing us ladies know how to do really well, it’s shop. If your mom’s into window shopping, take her for a stroll. Whether in a mall, down Bloor St (again, if you’re in Toronto), or just down the street to the plaza, a shopping spree gives you a great excuse to pick her up something nice. Maybe there’s something she’s wanted for a while. Surprise your mama by bringing her there and picking it up. No questions asked. Then drop a little “mama, you’re worth it”. My mom loves Yorkdale, Vaughan Mills, and boutiques downtown… so you know that this will be high on the list of to-dos for me (I’m not complaining emoji)

WORKOUT

There’s nothing that makes you feel better than breaking a sweat – so doing it with your mama is only going to make it even better. Do something fun like a Zumba/dance class, especially if your mom can’t get to the gym often. You want it to be empowering for her – to make her feel strong, not out of shape. Get her dressed in hot new gear too. My mom does Zumba and she’s got awesome legs, so I picked her up some new Bench. leggings to keep her motivated. The large waistband of the Baddah leggings are really flattering (pulling in the tummy comfortably instead of cutting into your love handles), so she’ll feel amazing. Watch your mama kick ass and compliment her butt or something. Make her feel like the sexy beast she still is (even though she probably doesn’t feel that way – she’s got you to thank for those stretch beauty marks)!

photoshoot

When you’re raising kids, you’re not really focussed on yourself. You’ve got a crapload of things that are more important to worry about over “looking good”. But your mom does look good. She gave birth to you after all, and you’re a beaut wink emoji So set up a mini-photoshoot, take some captures on the street, or conduct a little make over (whether at home or professionally in a studio) to capture some hot photos of your mama. My mom’s not a huge make up fan but she wanted to try a bunch of new lippies, so I picked up a bunch of summer shades from NYX to have her try out. They’re pro-pigmented and best of all don’t break the bank at all. Make her feel like the rockstar that she is. Moms don’t get enough credit, but they truly are the supermodels of our world. She should feel like that. And make sure to get into the shot – she’ll cherish those photos forever!
