What Makes A Perfect Transitional Parka

Spring weather is a tricky one. Some days it’s still freezing cold, other days it’s so warm you want to be in a tshirt and shorts. So when is the right time to pack up that winter gear? It’s a huge question mark and I find that as soon as I throw the parka into storage, I need it again.

Living in Canada means that you have a large rotation of parkas to use. Other people might have one, or maybe two, but in Canada, your number one staple piece for 6 months out of the year is a parka. I like to have variations for different outfits and purposes with one common denominator – guaranteed warmth. I’m always looking to add to my collection rotation because wearing the same jacket day in and day out really stifles my style creativity. I know my fellow Canadians know this #struggle.

Although I have a bunch of hardcore parkas in my closet, I hadn’t found one that was perfect for that mysterious spring transitional weather. The ones I have right now are too fluffy and cumbersome and looks like I’m still waiting for a snowstorm to arrive (although they sometimes do).

The answer to my struggle? A white parka.

I’ve been looking for one of these forever, but haven’t found the right look, length, and fit. I came across Noize Original pieces a while ago from my friend, The Lust Listt, and figured I’d take a look at their collection.

I found a mid-length, just-covering-the-bum, white parka and figured I’d give it a try. I was hesitant because I felt like it looked too “ski-trip” like and that the fur hood was still a bit too much for the transitional season.

To my welcomed surprise though, I decided to give it a try and found my White Park Mecca. I chose to try out the Aspen, in an XS and it actually fit perfectly. The hood is also removable, so wearing it like this is perfect for the spring transition. It also has that sporty vibe, which makes it perfect for that “urban-city-chic” vibe.

The length is also perfect for wearing spring pieces. It covers your bum, so your toosh isn’t freezing; but it’s not too long that it feels like too much.

The Aspen also features a huge collar on the inside, so that it really breaks that wind and blocks out the cold. It’s also geared up with storm cuffs (in case the snow really does come) and a ribbed bottom hem – so it’s still seriously warm.

Best of all though, it’s a crisp white… and not that weird, dirty-looking off-white that most jackets come in. I love how stark the contrast is. It makes any look feel fresher – a sentiment I’m definitely a proponent of when it comes to the spring. Clean, white slate for the spring, right?

It isn’t just their white jackets though, I love the inspiration behind Noize Original as a brand. They’re designed in Montreal, Canada, so they really understand the Canadian struggle. They focus on making warm and stylish outerwear, which is basically the complex every Canadian finds themselves in. For those vegan, animal lovers out there, Noize actually focuses on creating high-quality faux fur and faux leather – so no fluffy animals were killed in the jackets’ making. Surprisingly enough, they’re also quite a heritage brand. They’ve been around since 1978, so it’s no surprise that they know their shit.

The spring is such an exciting time, but our winter struggles always peak through. Isn’t that the case with anything in life?

This jacket is reminding me that everything takes time and that transitions are good… it just takes the right prep to transition properly (and not freeze your butt off wink emoji thumbs up emoji)

What do you look for in a transitional parka? Do you like the white?
