Summer Sweatsuit You Needed Yesterday

You all know my love for sweats is real. I’d give up underwear before I gave up my sweats (don’t visualize that please haha). That being said, I’m always trying to find new ways to style and share them – new renditions of the “sweats” tone, new ways to make them shine (other than at home watching Netflix).

I don’t need to repeat myself, but just for good measure, sweats to me are a symbol of true confidence. Comfort = confidence, because when you’re comfortable, you’re the most confident. When dressed up, they challenge the stereotype that sweats are “lazy” or “slobby”. They scream effortless and strong. BASICALLY… THEY ARE LIFE.

I’ve found that the best way (and some cool new best practises) to wear sweats is to:

  1. Embrace its naturally sporty tone

  2. Try to get matchy-matchy with it for a fashion-forward twist

  3. Wrap up the sweat pants, and go for a full sweat suit look

  4. Think of ways you’d never wear sweats, and do that

When there’s something “new” in the sweats world, I’m instantly on it. Although this isn’t exactly revolutionary, it’s pretty damn amazing. This outfit, I feel, embraces all the above. It embraces the unconventional way to interpret and style sweats. And, as expected, it’s thanks to my all-time-favourite sweats-makers… Bench.

My entire Bench closet (because I truly do have a full closet of Bench clothes hehe) makes up for 90% of my most comfortable clothes. Something about their material and cuts understands the world of comfort and embraces it in every piece and every collection, no matter what the tone.

The grey on grey action here is probably one of my favourite outfits right now. It also respects the fact that it is SO humid and hot here in Toronto in the summer. As much as I’d love to be cozied up in my fleezy sweats, I’d sweat like a maniac if I wore it outside of my AC-ed home. This monochrome grey 2-piece solves exactly this problem. It’s easy, breezy, and beautiful (not Covergirl, but I’m sure a Covergirl would hundo P approve of it).

The top is called the Inauguration Dress. but it’s a bit more like a long top than a dress (which makes it perfect for layering). I also love it over a pair of ripped denim shorts. The back detail and the comfy (yet breathable) knit makes it rise all the way to the top of my closet favourites. It’s also totally on sale right now for $30. Yes. $30 people! To make that deal even better, the matching skirt (although, technically not created to be styled together) is ALSO ON SALE. Hold your panties, I know I know, I totally had that reaction too.

The skirt is called the Sugestive Cobalt Knit Skirt. It’s on sale for $25, so you could get this entire look for a mere $55. I love the length (which is perfect for walking and sitting without showing your hoo-ha) and the white drawstring. It makes the matchy-matchy 2 piece a bit more of an elevated look. I tucked in a bit of the shirt to give it more of that effortless feel as well.

Obviously, I had to show some support and pick up a new cap from their new collection. I love cursive writing, so this unisex grey cap (written with jersey fabric) got me as soon as I saw it. I literally have a new cap from every single collection (although I’m missing a lot of them because Dave, See Dave Do, has been stealing them all from me).

I kept the accessories metallic-silver to compliment the all grey look. The necklace is an obvious fav (since I’ve styled it so much before), the glasses are my go-to aviators (bless those nose grips), and the watch is a new obsession of mine from The Fifth Watches. I don’t have a grey-strapped watch and could never find one that I loved, so I was very excited to get my sticky paws on this timepiece.

Basically, my advice is to pick these sweats up.

p.s. CUTE STORY: this lady stopped me on the subway the other day when I was on my way to shoot this outfit. She thought it was a couple hundred dollars from Aritzia and when she found out it was from Bench (and on sale) she ended up getting off at Dundas (Eaton’s Centre) and picked it up right away. She sent me a picture wearing it that evening. SEE! SWEATS BRING PEOPLE TOGETHER emoji

Honestly, whatever you wear (sweats or not), you know the drill – just feel comfy and confident. Butttttt… if you are a sweats lover. Make sure you pick up these pieces. It’s $50 you seriously won’t regret. I don’t have a discount code and you know I never ask you to buy things… but GIRL, trust me… you can thank me later wink emoji
