Although I’m not a huge lover of seasonal trends, the athleisure trend is one I’ve fully adopted. Not so much because it’s a trend, but more because I love how athleisure pieces make me feel comfortable. I’m a strong believer that if you’re comfortable in what you’re wearing, you’re going to look that much better in it.
So... What Is Athleisure?
So... What Is Athleisure?
casual, comfortable clothing designed to be suitable both for exercise and everyday wear-Dictionary
And yes, “athleisure” is actually in the dictionary now. It must really mean it’s a thing eh? haha If there’s a trend I feel has really liberated us, it’s this one. Sneakers aren’t confined to the gym anymore, basic is good, and TBH, it makes picking out an outfit on-the-go that much easier.
Everyone’s “Athleisure” style is different… because hey, who I am I to say what’s casual or comfortable for you and your lifestyle, right? But I figured I would round up my favourite pieces that have entered into my closet as “Athleisure” staples and maybe it’ll inspire you. There’s a time and a place, even for less comfortable red carpet dresses, but other than those special occasions, here’s what you’ll spot me running around town in.

ATHLEISURE CLASSICSWhite bombers are basically the new blazer… but even comfier? I love a good clean bomber line. It frames your face and collarbone perfectly and adds that little bit of refinery to your look. It’s also perfect to wear as a cape for those colder days to come. A crisp white one, if you’re brave enough to sport white (I shouldn’t be because I’m so clumsy, but screw it, haha), I would definitely go with that. It matches everything and adds a level of freshness to any outfit.

ATHLEISURE CLASSICSThis is probably one of my favourite pant silhouettes. Something about the cigarette pant looks so flattering. A little cropped vibe is perfect for those transition season… and capris were a huge sporty thing in the 90s, right? I feel like capris are coming back… just with a different naming convention haha “cropped”
These beige toned versions I picked up from Tobi are a favourite right now, specifically because of the back detailing. Since Athleisure outfits can feel a bit basic, I wanted to spice it up a bit with this low back opening. Bringing sexy back?

ATHLEISURE CLASSICSI literally cannot live without my turtlenecks. Even in the summer, I wear them tucked into shorts or a mini skirt. This one is a heat tech version from Uniqlo, so it temperature regulates (and is massively inexpensive). I have one in just about every colour. I love how it gives Athleisure outfits a bit of class and chic-ness. That and it’s definitely a warm option for those colder months.
If you’re picking up a turtleneck, make sure to find one that doesn’t feel like it’s choking you out and is a nice breathable fabric. Those 2 things are prime when turtleneck shopping.

ATHLEISURE CLASSICSNothing says Athleisure prep like a pair of lace-up oxfords right? This pair is a new staple in my wardrobe and is fresh off the rack from Call It Spring’s new fall collection. I love the patent leather (it makes it extremely durable for clumsy moments like mine). It’s also super easy to clean.
If you’re looking for a pair of oxfords, try a pair with a platformed sole. It gives that extra bit of contrast and actually makes them more comfortable (especially if you have flat feet like me). Luckily this pair definitely passes the comfy-walking test!
And there you have it, my 4 Athleisure staples. If you’re an Athleisure pro (looking at you hype-men and women, as well as you sneaker heads out there), give me some of your tips! Either way, wishing you all lots of comfy outfits to come this season!
