Having your own house is a lot of work. They never teach you that when your realtor is walking you around from house to house, looking at pretty finishings. They don’t tell you the amount of cleaning, the amount of maintenance, nor the amount of things you end up needing to think about.
But I suppose, that’s life isn’t it? A bag full of surprises!
When Dave and I bought this gut-job of a beautiful house in Toronto, we knew it was going to be work. We decided to gut the entire house and re-do it all by ourselves, after all. We were expecting work, but we weren’t expecting this much amount of dirt, clean up, and frankly, tough breathing conditions. Having decided to live in the house during the renos… it started to really become a problem.
The house is 107 years old, so the dust, dirt, and crap we’ve been taking down, sweeping up, and moving around had really started to make me feel sick. No matter how many times I showered, I just felt dirty. Our offices were supposed to be the 2 exceptions to this -when we decided to finish them fully before the rest of the house (a sort of safe haven, per se) – but even they were starting to get the same way.
we weren’t expecting this much amount of dirt, clean up, and frankly, tough breathing conditions…
Trying the Dyson Pure Hot+Cool Link
When I heard of the Dyson Pure Hot+Cool Link, I was thrilled to try it out. Dyson products are renowned for being the top of the crop. Some of my friends don’t stop raving about their Dyson products. So I knew this baby was going to be a game changer.
The Dyson Pure Hot+Cool Link boasts a couple of really cool features, including removing gasses and 99.97% of allergens and pollutants as small as 0.3 microns (pretty legit right?). The technology of it all is really cool, including their jet focus control, air multiplier tech, and their intelligent purification. If you’re interested, you can read more about it here.
For me, there were 5 really cool aspects of it that I noticed in my daily life. You can’t see micron pollutants, but trust me, you can definitely feel these changes.

Pet owners rejoice.
As much as I love him, Simba is not hypoallergenic. This means he sheds… a lot, and his dander can cause some problems. Dave has asthma and pretty bad allergies (bless his soul for still buying Simba for me), and keeping the Dyson Pure Hot + Cool link on has actually helped his breathing quite a bit (especially at night when he’s sleeping).

Out of sight, but in your lungs.
This house is our dream house, but we definitely know that it’s old. And with that comes a lot of questionable things in the air… especially those you can’t see. The Dyson Pure Hot+Cool Link doesn’t only capture pollen, mould, and bacteria (big things found in old houses… and in my dried flowers I’m sure), but it also captures harmful gases like formaldehyde. And although most of these you can’t see, your lungs definitely do.

Cozy Maker & Sweat Buster
Our house is super narrow and is build upwards. We have 3 upper floors and our offices are at the very top. I spend most of my time there, and as much as the un-obstructed light is beautiful, the heat and AC doesn’t quite reach. The heating and cooling action of the Dyson Pure Hot + Cool Link is incredible. It’s heating my chilly room as I write this blog post (winter is coming), and the purifying fan is a really nice breeze for those hotter days (like it has been earlier this month – crazy Toronto weather). By far my favourite aspect is the fact that you can control the temperature of the heating/cooling action. Setting my office to the perfect 22 degrees is heaven for me! As soon as it hits that, it slows down. This thing is smart!

Stank, be gone
The Dyson Pure Hot + Cool link has a layer of activated carbon granules that captures odours and harmful VOCs (like those stanky paint fumes) – a huge life saver since we’ve been reno-ing just about every corner of this house. My office used to have this weird mouldy, old smell to it (classic in old houses like mine), but after running this baby for the week, that smell is actually fully gone.

Hardly There
This machine is surprisingly super quiet. It actually got awarded the Quiet Mark by the Noise Abatement Society! But honestly, it’s so quiet, you don’t even hear a buzz while I’m Instagram-Storying. Huge plus when you want to keep it on and have a peaceful night sleep (or y’know… are filming a video haha)
There’s a ton more I’m sure I’m going to discover as I continue using this very sexy piece of machinery (y’know how much of a tech and gadget nerd I am), but I figured I would share these with you first. If you’re looking for a really efficient, surprisingly small, and barely there machine to spruce up the health-standards of your home… this machine is 100% worth every penny.
Your home is somewhere you spend so much of your time, it’s totally an investment to make sure your air quality is in tip top shape.
I think this is when Carry Bradshaw might have said something along the lines of “trading in your designer bags for designer home tech” haha … and I couldn’t agree more!
