Sometimes you just don’t feel like going out. This is a rare occurrence for me, but it does happen. Dave’s a home-body so he loves staying at home and just chilling (and no, not necessarily #netflixandchill-ing haha
If I’m staying at home, I like to be working on a project of some sort. I’m such a busy-body, staying still is like a nightmare. One day Dave was absolutely adamant on staying at home. When he picked me up from work, he had a set date day plan on how we were going to spend a fun night at home… Cooking.
If any of you know me personally, you know I absolutely dislike cooking. I don’t find the joy in it and treat it more as a fun, one-off activity more than anything else. Dave is definitely the chef at home (Admittedly, I sometimes even screw up eggs)
That being said, I wasn’t incredibly thrilled at the idea of cooking at home as a “fun night in”; but I decided to be a good sport and participate. The idea for the date day was making a “DIY Pizza” at home. It was a really cute idea since some of Dave and my favourite moments spent together has included pizza and movie (basically the only way you can get me to sit still). I was touched by his thoughtfulness, so I tried my hardest to get excited about it.
The night ended with my foot in my mouth, because I actually had a blast making the DIY Pizza. There was laughs, sweat (from rolling that pin), and creative moments (because, obvi, I had to make a cliché heart-shaped DIY pizza). The entire process was also extremely easy, so it’s perfect for all you non-cooks like me out there.
Here are the simple steps we took if you want to recreate this DIY Pizza Date Day:
Step 1: Prep & Knead Dough
Step 2: Cut, Wash, and Prep Your Favourite Toppings
Step 3: Flatten out your dough & cut to size
Step 4 (optional): Include a furry friend waiting for anything to drop on the floor
Step 5: Pan and sauce your DIY Pizza
Step 6: Add your sexy (they’re what make your DIY Pizza) toppings
Step 7: Pre-heat and Bake
Step 8: Cut & Serve Over a Cheers (or Kiss)
The pizza actually lasted us the whole day after. I definitely got some bonus points at work when I said my boyfriend made me a home-made pizza haha I was so inspired by how Dave got me to try something new. That’s what a date day should do – challenge each other, celebrate laughs, and try something you never thought you’d like.
It also tasted so much better than store-bought pizza and I’m confident that it was because of my hard work… or maybe it was the secret sauce of a Date Day haha
Have you ever tried DIY Pizza? Do you think it’d make for a fun date day?
