There are many things I dislike doing as a glorified new “home-owning” adult – cleaning the dishes, budgeting for cleaning solutions, needing special laundry detergent… the list certainly goes on. I know you fellow independent home-dwellers feel me. And that list used to 100% always include vacuuming. Ultimately, my dislike for vacuuming got transformed by my love for a clean house… and when you have a medium sized fluffy dog, it’s hard to keep it so without vacuuming.
Enter my official journey to find a vacuum that would compliment my new forced-love for cleaning.
After researching and talking to just about every friend I knew that had a house, they all convinced me that a Dyson was the only way to go. For all of you out there like me, you’re probably initially thinking: there is NO way I am spending multiple hundreds of dollars for a vacuum. I know I was there thinking that at first. But then I thought, I spend almost all of my Sundays cleaning, and about 4 hours of that is either sweeping or inefficiently vacuuming. That’s a minimum of 16 hours a month and 192 hours a year I was wasting. I was effectively just pushing dirt around that I would end up having to go over again and again to get it fully cleaned.
And with a narrow Toronto home and 3 floors to trek up, I was looking for a solution that would truly work. Perhaps it was worth it?
Dyson Cyclone V10 Review
CONVENIENCE
CORD-FREE, SMALLER, LIGHTERNot only is the Dyson Cyclone V10 so much easier to carry around and through the house with me, it’s also so much easier to store. My old vacuum took up half of the closet storage and it was a strategic game to think about where I would have to position myself so that it would reach a plug (Fun Fact: apparently James Dyson himself announced that he will no longer be investing in the development of new cordless vacuums – Viva la cordless!). I carry this thing up my steep flight of stairs like no other. Call me Hercules (just joking though because this thing is light as a feather).
POWER
SUBTLE BUT STRONGWhen I first looked at it, I thought: this little thing is never going to stand up to my monster. Boy did it ever. I never have to go over the same spot twice and it even picks up dirt that’s been crusted on for a bit too long. Despite its heightened power, I was surprised at just how quiet it is. Power and noise-reduction? It has both my vote and Simba’s (he hates the sound of vacuums).
VERSATILITY
ATTACHMENTS FOR EVERY NEEDThis is probably one of the main reasons the Dyson Cyclone V10 has changed my life. I always used to need to bring a small broom along with me whenever I vacuumed because my monster could never reach those tight spaces or corners. With a quick switch of a head, I’m going from cleaning cob webs on our 9 ft ceilings, to underneath the couch, to even catching dust on the top of my baseboards. Clean has a whole new meaning and peace out to that thing our parents used to call “dusting”.
LESS MESS
FROM THE BIN TO THE GARBAGEThe quick-emptying container of the Dyson Cyclone V10 is literally the push of a button, straight into the garbage can. No mess, no breathing in dusty air, no Angry-Mel. Cleaning done right, if you ask me (and no more dirty vacuum bags)
BEAUTIFUL
MODERN FOR MODERNAs much as I don’t want to admit it, aesthetics do mean something. It’s the same reason why I purchase new clothes or a designer investment bag. Why should my home appliances be any different, right? Our new Dyson Cyclone V10 compliments our newly renovated modern-industrial home; and although that’s not the main reason I love it, boy does it sparkle when I pull it out.
After all, what’s the point in completely rehauling and designing your dream home, if it’s going to become either 1) a complete mess or 2) the biggest chore to keep clean and sparkling? I never thought I’d say that, but I actually love vacuuming now. I see a speck of dust or a Simba-fluff in the corner and I automatically reach for my trusty Dyson Cyclone V10. The hype is real and this beautiful machine deserves every last bit of it.
If you’re on the fence, you’ve got to try it out. Seeing is believing. And happy to report that I’m now a believer.
Have you ever tried a Dyson vacuum? What are your thoughts on it?
