Undoubtedly, “marble” has had a great year. I suppose marble has always kind of been a luxury commodity, but it’s never trended like it has been now. Every scroll I make on Instagram features something marble – a phone case, a laptop case, a board for a flat lay… BASICALLY, if it’s marble, it’s coveted.
I won’t deny the fact that I’ve 100% jumped on this bandwagon. There’s something about marble that’s just so intriguing to me. It’s not just because it’s the perfect monochrome pattern to go with everything. I think the story of the stone itself is worth recognizing.
Little bit of a high level science lesson for you all:
Marble is actually not a type of rock in itself. It’s the result of multiple types and layers of carbonate rocks. They call it the “interlocking and mosaic of carbonate crystals”. It seemingly makes the sheet of rock look imperfect… yet we admire it for its imperfection and originality. That’s what makes marble so expensive – it’s unique.
Personally, we should take this philosophy with us everywhere – that uniqueness is something to be cherished and held at high value. A little ironic because marble is a trend right now, but what’s life without a bit of irony, right?
In general though, we’re so caught up with trying to conform, that we forget that our biggest asset is being different. If you’re just like the person next to you, what makes you special?
I’m definitely super inspired by the thought of “living a marbled life”. I’m considering it inclusive of accepting my own flaws AND strengths, as well as embracing my quirks as my own. Instead of being ashamed of the melting, forming, and chaos I’ve gone through, I’m taking it and using it as something that makes my life beautiful and valued. Marble itself took a long time to form and become grand in its weirdness, right?
Seeing this marble print jacket at Bench was literally love at first sight. It took my cheesy marble metaphor and embodied it in a warm and cozy down jacket. I couldn’t resist picking it up right away. From a completely practical standpoint, the length is definitely a selling point. It’s not too long that it inhibits you from moving freely, but it’s long enough to keep your toosh warm
I wouldn’t exactly say it’s thick enough to brace those cold Canadian winters on its own (but then again, what really is), but it’s a great layering piece. It’s also light enough to fit underneath my parka without looking super bulgy.
I’ll be honest, I took the jacket home for the sole reason that it was marble; but I didn’t realize it had a little unique quirk of its own. I only discovered it when the zipper flipped backwards and I thought I bought a broken jacket.
The marble jacket is completely reversible! I almost love it more flipped on the inside, subtly showing glimpses of the beautiful marble print as I move. It looks super edgy with the marble lapels. And, truthfully, winter Canadian fashion is hard to work with. Your parka is either in every styled shot or you’re freezing your butt off shooting something LA-esque. When I thought I couldn’t love this jacket more, it surprised me.
I love when clothing isn’t only fashionable but functional; and this jacket’s definitely got the whole marbled perfection down to a science (haha, get my cheesy pun there ) I bought it full price but I believe you can actually pick it up on sale now (wahoo!).
My obsession with marble and my love for this jacket has definitely inspired me to just continue doing me and no one else, no matter what anyone else says. I hope that you feel the same; because YOU, like marble, are so incredible in exactly who you are.
