Living Room Transformation Part 3: Final Reveal

Home renovations definitely weren’t easy, but let me tell you, home decorating is totally the fun part! Our living room was a space we really wanted to make perfect. It’s the space where we have our friends over, where we decompress from a crazy day, and most importantly, where we binge our favourite Netflix shows.

Whenever I watched HGTV shows, they made interior decorating look like an overnight job. That, my friends, it is not. It’s just as fun as it looks in the shows, but we realized that a lot more goes into putting together a look and aesthetic and finding the right pieces.

I used to hate staying at home all day, but now all I seem to want to do is chill in my living room.

If you’ve followed along our Living Room Transformation story, you’ll know that the project of transforming our living room has been a long one, but now that the space is finally complete, we could not be more happy with it.

BEFORE

THE SPACE

This actually used to be a closed off room right in the front of our house before we knocked down all the walls, rewired, and rebuilt it. Above is the space freshly painted, but completely empty. It definitely looked better than the 100 year old dated version of itself, but after it was filled, it went from a cold, purposeless, empty room to our new found heaven at home.

AFTER

HEAVEN AT HOME

Every spot is one that we love – one that we put our heart into, and one that truly now feels like home.

It was a lengthy process to create the perfect space we wanted to create. We knew we wanted the aesthetic to be “industrial modern”. We also wanted to ensure that it still had a home-y feel to it. We chose all of our pieces from one of our favourite home retailers, Structube, who if you don’t know… definitely check out (like… yesterday). Their pieces are the epitome of clean, modern, but cozy. And with affordable prices, you can mix, match, and play with your space without feeling the pressures of your budget. They also have new pieces coming out on the weekly, so you bet your buckets I’m on there checking every morning.

***Tip: if you see something at Structube, snag it quick! Sometimes they sell out and you’ll kick yourself for not buying it sooner!

We didn’t have a lot of space to play with, but we found a way to incorporate just about everything we wanted in a living room. Here are all of the elements we used to make our choices and what inspired us to put what we did in the space:

FUNCTIONALITY

A MUTLI-USE CENTREPIECE

There’s nothing I lust over more than a beautiful coffee table in the centre of a living room. Naturally, your eyes just get drawn to it when you’re looking at the space. We wanted something that would compliment the space, but that would also make use of our small space. The Structube Evo Table was the perfect fit for us. With storage, a fold up table (to work or eat), and a minimalist design – it was the coffee table we’ve always dreamed of.

CORNERS

FILLING EVERY SPOT

Small spaces mean that you need to carefully construct every corner to make use of every little square foot. We loved putting together this corner that sports a (faux) fiddle leaf plant (the best we’ve seen – it looks so real), some nesting tables (you never know when you’ll need to pull one out), and a reading lamp that was a serious conversation starter

THE COUCH

TO BEAT ALL COUCHES

Here’s the piece de résistance – our beloved Kinsey couch. We have been coveting this gorgeous couch for what feels like years and we were so excited to get our hands on it. With a pre-distressed look (perfect to hide our pup’s scratches), a chaise attachment (perfect for naps), and a colour that would last through the ages… our Kinsey couch is now the home to so many incredible memories.

READING NOOK

THE PERFECT FINISHING ACCENTS

We really wanted an armchair in the space, but didn’t want to clutter or feel too heavy in our already small living room. This Kemp Armchair was the perfect fit with its minimal legs and wide stance. It’s perfect to sit crossed legged reading a book (although our pup, Simba, has definitely claimed it as his new throne).

We added the full length Newport mirror to open up the corner a bit and it automatically made the small space feel much bigger.

SHELFIE

TO HOLD THE KEEPSAKES

What’s a home without a good shelfie? I loved the clean lines of the Berwick Bookcase as soon as I saw it. I knew that it would be the perfect home for all of my most cherished keepsakes. We accented it with wooden and metallic accessories (like the Vista Wire Tray), and can’t wait to add more memories to it. It connects our living room to our dining room and is the most welcoming story-piece we have.

TEXTURES

THE PERFECT FINISHING ACCENTS

Since the aesthetic of our home is predominantly minimalist (if you couldn’t tell by all the white), we knew we wanted to add some texture and life in to make it cozy. We chose metallics, wooden, greenery, and velvet accessories to make the space warmer, while still maintaining a nordic style modern vibe.

Flowers compliments of our friends at Tonic Blooms (and our favourite floral delivery service) – thank you for the beautiful house-warming addition!

Whether you’re thinking of adding a new accent to your home or perhaps even rehauling your entire space, we hope this helped show you our thought process and how we went about it. Interior design should be fun and expressive, not stuffy and unapproachable. We can’t wait to continue showing you the other reveals we have coming up in our little #InspiredOnOssington home and would love to hear your thoughts on our living room!

Here’s to being our own little versions of HGTV and creating the spaces we truly love to live in!
