Without a doubt, one of my favourite things about fall fashion is the fun of layering. It’s like the grown up way of playing puzzles; but you get to make up your own rules. Fall (especially here in Toronto) can mean it being 19 degrees one day and then 5 degrees the next day. That being said, layering is KEY. You can peel off layers or put them on depending on where you are and what you’re doing. Perfect for the person on the go.
Recall, that for me, I basically live out of my tote like a nomad (so layering has literally been my saving grace).
The pros of layering are obvious, I think. The cons really only exist in that it can sometimes rack up a hefty bill. Buying several different pieces to layer on (instead of buying one stupidly heavy, but warm parka) can sometimes be expensive. I love flowy layering underneath chunky sweaters, but I wouldn’t exactly say that it contributes to keeping me warm so much as it is a fashion statement.
That being said, I think the science and the key to successful layering is finding cost-efficient pieces.
I tend to like to buy my focussed-layer-piece (i.e. a jacket or sweater) in a neutral colour – although it tends to be in black more than anything else. I find that neutrals just go with everything and that it saves you money in the long run (since jackets and heavy sweaters are normally more expensive than anything else). Pair it up with a nice pair of trendy sunnies, like this super cool cat eye pair I got from Zero UV, and you’ve got chic written all over!
I’m wearing a light-weight down jacket layered under my new go-to piece for the fall – my Bench. Anorak. It’s honestly the perfect length and thickness. It’s not heavy but is totally weather-proof, which is awesome. It also has a hood (classic Bench. right 
#LoveMyHood) which is great for those unexpected rain clouds – that always seem to catch me when I’m walking to or from work.
I know it’s a controversial subject, but I love layering with leggings. They’re not chunky and can honestly add just the right subtle touch to your layering outfit. Here I’m wearing a chevron Bench. print legging that’s in a perfect shade of grey (as you can see I’m playing it real risky with moving from black to grey… NOT haha #sarcasm).
This particular layering sitch is also perfect if you’ve got the gym scheduled into your day (you can strip off the other layers, throw on a sports bra and you’re good to go).
It’s also a great idea, if you’re easing yourself into layering, to throw something around your waist. Yes, yes, it’s a throwback 90s trend – but it’s “cool”, it’s comfortable, and it’s super convenient when you realize you didn’t dress warm enough (#guilty 
)
