For me, a big theme this summer has been “relax”. I had the amazing opportunity to do a complete refresh and recharge in between 2 incredible jobs – one that was heartbreaking to leave and one that I was beyond anxious and eager to begin. Such is the life of constant adventure, right?
I’ll be honest here. There is nothing “special” about this outfit, there’s no special meaning, no metaphor, no planning that really went into it. I know what you’re thinking… then why the hell are you featuring it Mel? That ain’t your style.
You’re right. It’s because that’s exactly the point I wanted to make.
Sometimes you don’t need to plan. You don’t need to craft ideas. You don’t need to work towards it. You just need to be. That’s what this outfit means to me. It represents me just being. Not me being my most glamorous, nor stylish self. Relaxation and simplicity are underrated.
Sure, it might not be the most stylish of outfits, but it’s comfortable, it’s relaxed, it’s me… and it’s liberating. And it also does embrace some of my favourite trends of the season – platform wedges, long hems, denim chambray shirts, tie up shirts.
What I really want to drive home is that it was easy. Easy breeds comfort and comfort breeds less stress. And we all could use some of that as the summer winds down and the hectic fall-winter seasons begin.
