Tips & Essentials for a Full Day Out (Ft. Fjallraven Canada)

You probably thought to yourself, when do I ever have a full day out? Then realized – oh yeah, often. For busy girls on the go or super moms doing their thang, sometimes your day, that was supposed to be 3 hours, turns into a 12 hour situation. You also realized that because you weren’t expecting a full day out, you’re wishing you had prepared a little better.

Okay, maybe this is just me? haha

But, if it’s not, maybe these tips will be helpful for your full day out too – whether planned or unexpected, there’s nothing better than being prepared and having everything you need with you!

Full Day Out

1. Bring a Reliable Bag

There’s nothing worse than A) not being able to fit everything you need, B) having the bag weigh you down more than what’s inside does, or (god forbid) C) having to use a garbage bag because your real bag broke half way through the day. Basically, the bag you’re bringing around with you for a full day out is super important. I love my Fjallraven bag for long days out because it never seems to get full and is super lightweight (no tired shoulders for me emoji).

The design of the Kanken bag is made to be super durable, basic, and lightweight (and was actually inspired by reports of increasing numbers of children suffering from back pain, as a result of shoulder bags). It’s also water repellent and has a reflective logo so that you’ll have no issues in any sort of environment or activity (hiking, beach, night-walks, etc).

2. Pack Entertainment

In between meetings, waiting for a dinner reservation, or in transit, there’s nothing like some music, an app, a game, or reading material to keep your brain sharp. A full day out always means some sort of waiting in between events, so having portable entertainment with me is a must. Normally it’s my iphone (and when I remember, a pair of good headphones, like these Sudio earphones) and my iPad (which has all my ebooks and podcasts).

3. Don’t Forget “Real” Snacks

Chips, candy, and all that fluffy stuff is always tempting to bring with you because they’re so easy to throw in and go. But what I’ve noticed is I actually feel really gross and drained when I eat all that garbage. Instead, I try and make sure I pack a salad (if I know I’m going to need a meal), fruits, and nuts with me on my full day out.

4. Stay Hydrated

Did you know more than half of the North American population lives dehydrated? Yeah, I didn’t either! But when I actually think about it, there’s no way I actually drink enough water. We’re actually supposed to drink 150% of what we lose in peeing and sweating; and for a full day out, this is even more important because you’re constantly on the go. Sometimes I think we skip out on drinking water because it’s “not cool”, keep an inspiring water bottle with you (I love XO Waterto keep you motivated to drink more!

5. Don’t Wear Anything Uncomfortable & Layer Clothes

Everyone knows I hate uncomfortable, itchy, restraining clothes. For a full day out… it’s even more important. You need transitional clothes (so sometimes it helps to pack another outfit in your bag) and you definitely need layers. I always keep a sweater around (not just to tie around my waist for a nomcore vibe emojibecause weather changes suddenly and some places think “air conditioning” means freezer temperature.

I’m wearing a Lululemon sports bra, Vince slides, and my favourite pair of Bench leggings that keep me dry and cool.

Also, skip out on your heels or make sure you’ve got a comfy pair of flats in your bag. Sore feet = automatic bad day. I normally wear/bring slides if I can so they allow my feet to breathe.

6. Don’t Neglect Your Beauty

When we have a full day out, our minds often don’t surround our beauty regimen, despite the fact that we’re putting it through hell. Knowing this, I always try and keep a couple travel sized beauty must haves with me: hand cream (like this fav from Hand Chemistryand face wipes/mist (like these Simple Wipes). I try and put the beauty products in front pockets so that they’re easily accessible (and mostly so I don’t have to go digging for them haha)

7. Spend it With A Bestie

Sometimes this isn’t always feasible, but a full day out is always made better with an awesome adventure-companion. For me, I love it when I have Simba around with me. He normally stays by my side and is a lot of fun. I’ll admit, I tend to talk to him as if he really understands everything that’s going on monkey emoji; but having someone with you to share your fun filled full day out makes it that much better.

I hope you’ve jotted down some reminders and that you embark on those beautiful days prepped and ready for everything it has to offer! I always forget stuff, but at the end of the day, if you’ve got a smile on, you’ve technically got everything you need.
