Tips & How To Wear Plaid This Season

Plaid, oh plaid. It’s been a hot minute. Alright, alright, I know this is a touchy subject. And in fear of sounding too much like Cher from Clueless, or a reincarnation of my circa highschool girl self in full uniform, I’ll just say:

Plaid ain’t bad.

In fact, I’m just going to go out there and say it. I LOVE plaid. Perhaps it instantly reminds me of the holidays or brings me back to my childhood days of wearing a plaid uniform every day in school. Either way, I love it. I love the way it makes a statement without needing much thought. I love the way it makes any outfit pop. And I love that it’s coming back in full force this season (and hopefully it’s here to stay).

I know plaid can be intimidating at times, so I’ve rounded up some of my top tips for wearing plaid this season:

1) Keep the other non-plaid items in your outfit simple

2) Don’t fear the plaid suit. It does all the thinking for you

3) Wear it when you want to make a statement

4) Keep the accessories to a minimum. Plaid is keeping you busy enough

5) Have fun with it! Don’t fear fun colours or bold plaid prints

MY PLAID OUTFIT

SUITED UP

I’m a sucker for good suit. I’m a firm believer that suits are the easiest outfits to put together on the planet (yes, easier than jeans and a t-shirt). It does all the planning and thinking for you and everything is already pre-matched. Score!

I found this festive fall plaid suit from my friends at Le Chateau and am absolutely obsessed. I think I’ve mentioned this before, but a lot (if not most) of all Le Chateau suits are actually made right here in Canada (at their warehouse in Montreal, with a cutting room and everything). The quality of the pieces for the price is incredible and I find that they fit right off the rack like a glove. I’m definitely going to be wearing it all through the holidays (if I don’t wear it to death before then).

So the next time you walk by that plaid scarf or perhaps even that full plaid suit, don’t discount it from your memory. Embrace the pattern with open arms and I swear it’ll love you back (or at least the fashion gods will). Happy plaid-season friends!
