Valentines Day Gift Ideas You Wish He Knew About

Oh Valentine’s Day, the holiday of many expectations and often disappointed souls haha Without meaning to sound grim, let’s be honest, Valentine’s Day often comes with a lot of guessing, a lot of planning (or lack thereof), and a lot of hopes. Over the years (this will be Dave and my 8th year celebrating Valentine’s Day together), I’ve definitely learnt that above the gifts and the romantic dinners, are most important parts of the “holiday” –  being present and spending time together, being thoughtful, and using it as a tool or excuse to re-ignite the flame.

But let’s also be honest, it’s nice to receive a gift – not solely for the purpose of receiving something material, but knowing that the other person put thought into going out there to find something they think you’d like.

As much as we’d love our boyfriends and girlfriends to know exactly what fits our mood and what’s been on our wish list, we can’t exactly expect them to be mind readers, right (although, wouldn’t that be nice)? Over the 8 Valentine’s Days with Dave, I’ve definitely had my fair share of interesting gifts – from hard drives, to iPhone wires, to lingerie, it’s been a good mixed of bag of hits and misses. He says they’re functional… I say,
“good effort!” haha I love them and him either way, but over time we’ve found that the best course of action has always been to give each other a sort of “wish list”. From there, it’s up to them to decide what they think is meaningful and the best part is that you’ll know it’s something you had your eye on.

Tip: despite making it easy for him, I always ask him to write me a card about why he chose that gift exactly (beyond just “I know you’d like it”). It makes it more special and meaningful.

And for those of you who’ve known Dave and I for a while, you’ll know we recently bought a new house and renovated it all with our own 4 hands. You’ll also know that we love traveling and are major budgeters (so that we can afford to do those two aforementioned things haha) And collecting miles has always been a big part of our budgeting. We figure, if we’re going to be spending money, we might as well earn something for it right? We take that approach to just about every holiday (where the “Shopping” expense category is higher than normal). We use a ton of rewards programs, but Aeroplan is one we’ve definitely loved consistently throughout the years (mostly because it’s given us access to travel, but their eStore also allows you to earn miles from so many retailers online).
For those of you who are fellow rewards lovers and if you’re an Aeroplan Member (if you’re not, what in the world are you waiting for?!), between February 4-17, you’re able to earn up to 5X THE MILES on specific Valentines-Day-perfect retailers so that you’re both racking up the miles while spoiling the other person. The Aeroplan eStore is actually such an easy and convenient way to earn more miles while shopping at the stores you would normally shop at anyways. All you need to do is log in with your last name and Aeroplan number, choose your favourite retailer, and click “Shop Now” to start earning miles from shopping. I hear a new romantic getaway calling our names haha

Wouldn’t that be the most awesome Valentine’s Day gift ever?!

The Aeroplan eStore has a ton of retailers (over 170 to be exact) to choose from and I love that they highlight special offers on specific retailers (so I know how to really maximize my mile earnings). Here are just some of the retailers who are included in this special Valentine’s Day offer:

– Amazon.ca
– Banana Republic
– Blue Nile
– Etsy
– Gap
– Hudson’s Bay
– Indigo
– Old Navy
– Sephora
– Wayspa

No commission/affiliates here, but if you’re interested in learning more, getting started to earn Aeroplan Miles, or want to check out the eStore, I’ll include the links below:

So to no surprise (and since Dave and I share most of our household budgeting… and rewards accounts), my entire Valentine’s Day wish list is from the retailers accessible via Aeroplan’s eStore. I mean, I think we’d both be down for that next trip to Paris, so it’s completely justified haha I’ve linked all the products to each item below (but to earn the miles from it, make sure to log in in the Aeroplan eStore and access each retailer’s website through there first (it’ll just redirect you straight to the retailer’s website, but will make sure your Aeroplan number is associated with your purchases).

For each item, I’ve also added a little sentiment (that I would hope Dave adopts for each item), so hopefully it can spur a little inspiration in your significant other too (or if you are the significant other reading this… you are welcome, friend!)

  1. Yves Saint Laurent Top Secret Instant Moisture Ultra Glow (Hudson’s Bay, $69)
“You’re beautiful everyday, but here’s a little something to help the world see your sparkle”

  2. Dyson Supersonic Limited Pink Edition Hair Dryer Set (Hudson’s Bay, $549)
“You and your locks deserve only the best”… plus this is something the whole family can use! Multi-functional investment gifts FTW!

  3. Emily & Jane Beauty Sleep Floral Peached Jersey Pyjama Set (Hudson’s Bay, $34.50)
“Because even when you sleep, you are the queen of life”

  4.  Ikee Design Cosmetic Organizer (Amazon.ca, $31.86)
“Because I know you like things clean. This is me helping to clean!”

  5.  Fujifilm Instax Mini 9, Flamingo Pink (Amazon.ca, $89)

  6. Fujifilm Instax Mini 90 – Neo Classic Instant Film Camera, Brown (Amazon.ca, $159.99)
“You’re better than a vintage bottle of wine, you’re as beautiful as Marilyn on film”

“Your name is the last word I ever want to say. Plus, I pay attention when you watch Sex and the City re-runs”

  8.  Real Flower Phone Case (Etsy, $28.23)
“Carry a piece of my love with you everywhere… plus this will make your mirror-selfies the envy of all”

  9. My Cinema Lightbox Mini (Indigo, $22.12)
Just write something cute on the box and you’ll win her over!

  10. Custom Quote Print (Etsy, $13.70)
So much better than a card and you can create a print with a quote that means something super special to you as a couple.

  11.  Rose Quartz Cluster (Indigo, $24.50)
pssst… this is the stone of universal love. That’s basically all you need. Go forth and be romantic.

  12. UGG Coquette Slippers (Hudson’s Bay, $120)
“I love every part of you, from the top of your head to your feet” Feet are also one of the most intimate parts of our body!

  13.  5 Love Languages Hardcover Special Edition (Indigo, $23.22)
“Because I know how much us working as a team means to you and to me”

  14. Illume Elemental Candle Tin (Indigo, $29.50)
“You deserve to unwind, read a book, and feel like the pampered queen that you are”

So it’s likely that Dave will NOT use the words above that I’ve chosen (I’m convinced I’d really be the best boyfriend ever haha), but I think if you give him this wish list and ask him to come up with a reason why he chose that specific item, you’ll be surprised at how much more meaningful the gift will be.

Make sure to take advantage of the amazing Aeroplan offer for Valentine’s Day, whether for your significant other, your gal/pal-entine, or for yourself (it’s a holiday about love after all, and self love is just as important as any other). Cheers to the Valentine’s Day shopping and … I guess I’ll see you all in Paris haha
