HOW TO: WEAR PRINTS WITH CONFIDENCE

There are few things I love more than prints, and as the gloomier, colder seasons enter our neck of the woods, I find that prints make for a fun way to dress up an otherwise drab winter outfit.

But prints can be scary. I get it. When you walk into a store, the first thing you gravitate to is probably the black dress or, dare I say, navy pants? And don’t get me wrong, I love neutrals as much as the next girl and am a fan of a neutral and classic wardrobe, but adding a pop of prints, in a way that you feel comfortable, is a great way to spice up your neutrals and pre-existing outfits.

And if you find yourself standing the aisles or perhaps glaring hazy eyed at an e-store, not knowing where to start when it comes to adding a bit of prints into your wardrobe, here are some tips I find helpful:

  1. If you’re new to prints, focus on one bold print to add in to your outfit. Keep the rest of your outfit either neutrals/solids

  2. Consider the type of print it is. Are they horizontal lines that make you appear wider? Are they large polka dots that are fun? Or are they squiggly lines that make you feel dizzy?

  3. Let the print speak to you and your personality. Prints should be fun, just like you.

  4. Find prints that incorporate colours that you already wear. This will make it easier for you to match it with other pieces in your outfit

  5. If it’s a wild or really bold print, find a silhouette that’s more classic, like these cigarette leg skinny pants

These floral printed pants I picked up recently from Le Chateau is legit my favourite print of the season. I loved that it incorporates all neutral colours, while adding a bit of festive green. The pops of metallic also make it a super holiday-appropriate print.

I love that the silhouette is classic and Le Chateau makes the comfiest of pieces. How can one be bold when one is uncomfortable, right?

These pants speak for themselves, so I’ve styled them pretty simply. It’s the perfect piece to wear from work to a party, a serious meeting to a girl’s night out. P.s. there’s a matching blazer, and you know how much I love a good power suit. But more on this at a later time.

As winter creeps up hard and the festive season comes screeching up on this, I hope that you give some prints a try. I swear you’ll be poppin’ in it, girl!
