4 Easy DIY Hairstyles To Feel Your Best This Summer

Okay, it’s officially summer! And summer seriously brings out more smiles in everyone. Call it the Vitamin D or the ability to actually walk around the city without getting frost bite… either way, it’s undeniable that summer is good vibes. With summer in the city, however, comes smoggy summer humidity. And with short hair, the problem isn’t as easily solved as frantically tying my hair up in a messy pony tail anymore (neither was that ever really a preferred hair style choice to begin with).

But never one to back down from a challenge, I’ve found 4 of the easiest hair styles that’s honestly sure to keep that smile on your face and your hair looking like you just popped out of the salon… even with the summer humidity.

And when I say easy, I mean, straight forward products with serious salon quality muscle, and seriously… styles that take less than 5 minutes. You know I’m all about efficiency! And there’s nothing like saving yourself more time to go out there and enjoy the beautiful summer weather, right? #Priorities.

When I was putting these looks together, I wanted to make it to show you guys just how easy and seamless it is – from the techniques, all the way to the products. For me, there’s nothing like hair styles that I can achieve from products from my local Shoppers. It’s where I can pick everything up all in one place and y’know, shamelessly collect Optimum Points.

*NB: my mom and I literally go out every time Shoppers Drug Mart has 20x the points and make a shopping date day out of it. I’ve been doing this with her since I was a little girl. Is it weird, I actually find walking into a Shoppers Drug Mart peaceful and home-like because of that? Another fun fact: working at Shoppers Drug Mart was one of my first jobs ever!

So in the spirit of easy and simple, for all of the 4 looks, all you’ll need is these 5 products (which can all be purchased at your local Shoppers Drug Mart) and the handful of steps listed below (or watch the tutorial on Youtube below):

Step 1: Wash hair with OGX Damage Extra Strength Damage Remedy + Coconut Miracle Oil Shampoo and lightly towel dry
Step 2: Rough dry hair with the Infiniti Pro by Conair 3Q Dryer, leaving hair a bit wet
Step 3: Section your hair off starting with the bottom third
Step 4: Take wide sections using a round brush
Step 5: Begin slowly pulling from mid shaft to ends while applying spot heat
Step 6: Continue throughout section
Step 7: Repeat through second and third sections

PRODUCT REVIEW: OGX Extra Strength Damage Remedy + Coconut Miracle Oil Shampoo

Having died my hair for years, hydration is always a hot topic for me and I'm always looking for a new shampoo to add the natural shine back to my hair. This coconut oil shampoo softens up the dry strands and leaves a really silky and soft sheen to my otherwise dry ends. You want to make sure you've got a great base for any hair style, and this shampoo definitely gets you that.

For such a powerful hair dryer, it is surprisingly quiet! It also generates 70% more air pressure with less heat so it's drying your hair faster with less damage, making your blow out sleek and healthy.

Step 1: Section your hair off starting with the bottom third
Step 2: Take wide sections and pull through the Infiniti Pro by Conair Straightening Brush
Step 3: Continue throughout section
Step 5: Release second and third sections and continue
Step 6: Bring brush through entire head to make sure you got every spot
Step 7: Finish the look with some got2b Volumanic Hairspray

This is by far the most revolutionary product I've ever added to my hair styling tools. Its 400 degree, Ionic feature with Nylon bristles remove all frizz without the damage of a straightening iron. It grips and holds your hair in place so even if you're not a straightening pro, this has you covered.

Step 1: Use a dab of got2b Volumaniac Mousse to add grit and texture
Step 2: Take a small part from the front root of one side and twist
Step 3: Continue twisting down the side of your head adding more hair as you go
Step 4: Bobby pin the twist at the back
Step 5: Repeat process on the other side
Step 6: Finish the look with some got2b Volumanic Hairspray

I've always loved got2b products growing up. I love that these products maintain hold without flattening out your hair, which makes it perfect for these looks!

Step 1: Part your hair towards 1 side
Step 2: Use a dab of got2b Volumaniac Mousse to add grit and texture
Step 3: Take a small section at the root of the part and begin braiding
Step 4: Begin adding more hair as you braid (don’t worry if it’s messy)
Step 5: Braid all the way to the end and tie off
Step 5: Bobby pin the braid behind your ears
Step 6: Throw loose hair over the end of the braid to cover

Make sure you also check out more salon-inspired hair products from Shoppers Drug Mart where you can also enter their #HairGoals contest and watch more how-to videos to get that salon-worthy hair. As always, you can also just peep into their store and check out their envious salon hair care section. I could stay there for days!

Each of these 4 looks are easy styles that honestly make me feel like such a hair pro. But truthfully, whatever you throw your hair into this summer, the most important thing is to make sure you’re enjoying the season to the fullest! Bring on the summer heat – me… and my hair… are ready ready for you!

  • Love the twisted look! You’re really making me miss having short hair. It just makes everything look so cute!

    • Mel

It’s honestly so easy too! Y’know what though, I definitely miss my long hair. We always want what we can’t have right? haha Thanks so much for stopping by!

  • Such cute looks, I have tried them all I must say, as my hair is currently about your length and I get bored of wearing the same hairstyle everyday, hehehe. I am into tight low bun with the middle parted, sleek and comfy 🙂 Happy Monday Mel!
