Who’s heard of compression socks? TBH, if you asked me a year ago, I didn’t give two flying ducks about what type of socks I wore (as long as they covered my feet, that was good enough for me). But over the past year, with an increased focus on wellness, the abundance of travel I do, and some research, I’ve actually learnt that
There are so many great benefits of wearing compressions socks. But somehow, all of the ones I found on the market in the past were either catered to elderly people or just didn’t seem to work.
That is until I discovered Supporo Compression Socks. Their socks are catered to every day people who are looking to take advantage of the benefits of compression socks, without sacrificing style. But before I get ahead of myself, if you were in the same boat as me and had no clue and no cares over the therapeutic benefits of wearing compression socks, here’s what you need to know
What’s the benefit of compression socks?
- they boost circulation in your legs – so whether you’re working out, on a plane, or simply just laying around, better circulation in your legs is not only helpful, it’s really important
- they diminish swelling – this is huge for me. The reason I started looking into compression socks was because I had started to notice that my feet and calves would painfully swell during a flight and it took me at least a day at my destination with my feet elevated to reduce the swelling
- they can reduce lightheadedness or unsteadiness when you stand (caused by something very science-y called orthostatic hypotension)
- they can prevent cramps in your legs
- they can reduce restless leg syndrome (something I experience a lot, especially on long haul flights or when I need to be sitting for extended periods of time)
Of course, the above is a result of various different factors, including age, heredity, overall health, lack of exercise, pregnancy, your work etc., but if you experience any of the above, compression socks will change your life. For those of you who travel a lot, are pregnant, are elderly, or are standing for long periods of time (whether for work or otherwise), I would highly recommend looking into these benefits.
Supporo Compression Socks – Review
So here I am – realizing that compression socks not only change the comforts of my travels, but that they’re beneficial in all other aspects of my life. I begin my online search for “Cute Compression Socks” and the results are few and far between. I came across Supporo, since they’re a brand available and seemed pretty reputable in Canada.
I got sent a few pairs from their team, ever so graciously, and to be honest, their socks have changed my perspective of fashionable compression socks. I figured that since most of these socks weren’t cute, I’d be driven to hide them underneath pants, but Supporo’s abundance of styles, prints, and options liberated me from thinking I needed to hide the fact I was wearing compression socks at all. They have everything from thigh-high stocks, knee-high elastic stocks, pantyhose, sport socks and cuffs, and a ton of cute prints.
How To Style Compression Socks
If you’re like me, you’re currently participating in some sort of social distancing and self isolation at home, given the current status of world health. But that doesn’t mean you can’t rock some cute style. And since I’ve found myself either sitting uncomfortably still at my desk or on my feet cleaning all day to keep busy, compression socks and styling them have become a new found passion of mine. Here are 3 different ways I’m currently wearing my compression socks and hopefully it gives you some inspiration to rock a pair of yours with confidence too:
Comfy Chic:
Trendy Athleisure:
Streetwear:
Workout Chic:
Compression socks might not be the sexiest of style topics, but I’m a big proponent of both fashion and function. These socks haven’t changed my style, but they’ve most certainly made a huge change to how I feel and especially how I travel. Here’s to the non-sexy topics that prove us wrong!
