What I Do To Keep My Blonde Hair (Ft. L’Oreal Paris Everpure Review)

Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always wanted to be blonde. It wasn’t for the greatest reasons, I’ll admit. Most of the princesses I saw in Disney movies and all of my favourite characters on TV all had what I liked to call “yellow” hair. And being born with classic coarse Asian hair, well… I was the furthest thing from blonde.

I had my jet black hair for most of my life… a few full decades. When I finally decided to go lighter, it was the scariest, but most exciting moment in my hair-life journey. If you have really dark hair, you would’ve joined me in my fear (lifting Asian black hair to a bright blonde is a heck of a feat). And as for the excitement, it wasn’t so much about becoming a Disney princess anymore, but it was about doing something that different, something that challenged my comfort.

Now having had pastel coloured hair and light blonde for a couple of years now, one of the biggest parts of my hair journey isn’t even so much the bleaching as it is the haircare. When you have naturally dark hair, maintaining a bright white blonde is not the same as someone who has naturally lighter hair. Your brassiness comes out a lot quicker, the tones can easily get a green tinge, and your hair is significantly more damaged.

I was the furthest thing from blonde…

So I constantly search far and wide for good hair care products to maintain my blonde hair. I talk about it like it’s my baby, but honestly, blonde is maintenance (no one tells you that when you’re growing up watching blonde Disney princesses whip their beautiful Rapunzel hair around).

When I got the chance to work with L’Oreal Paris to try their Everpure Blonde system, I was ecstatic. I had heard so many great things about the Everpure line in general, I was so excited to put the Blonde system to the test. I’ve gone through so many different toners, purple shampoos, and systems, my blonde radar is almost at a self-proclaimed expert level haha.

After exclusively using the Everpure Blonde system (shampoo, conditioner, and treatment) for a full month, I fell deeply in love. I like to try things for more than a week or a couple of washes, because the product typically has its full effect when it’s used consistently. But after a month, I can safely say that the Everpure Blonde system is in my top 3 favourite haircare systems for my blonde hair… and I’ve tried a ton.

4 things stuck out to me about the L’Oreal Paris Everpure Blonde system that really made me love it.

The number one thing about systems for blonde hair is that they have to be able to remove brassiness… in a way that also doesn’t stain your hair purple. I’ve tried tons of purple shampoos that work great, but they leave a purple tinge to my hair, even if I leave it on for only 5 minutes. The Everpure Blonde system seems to really gently tone the hair without making it purple and really brightens up the highlights. It perfectly neutralizes the brassiness without leaving me looking like I accidentally gave myself purple streaks. I used the shampoo and conditioner about twice a week, and the Blonde Shade Reviving Treatment once a week. It left my hair feeling super refreshed and almost like I just stepped out of the salon.

This is a big one. The Everpure Blonde system is 100% sulfate-free, paraben-free, and free of harsh salts. These things KILL bleached hair like mine and is often what causes a ton of breakage, damage, and for lack of a better term, looking like you just got fried. The lack of hard sulfates, salts, and surfactants means that it doesn’t strip, dull, or damage the cuticles of your hair shafts. Even the shampoo is super gentle, while still leaving my hair feeling truly clean – a balance that’s typically hard for products to strike.

A quick follow up to the above, because the lack of those ugly ingredients is likely what causes this; but the system truly left my hair feeling really shiny and soft. Even though it was toning, it also felt like it was giving my hair a moisturizing treatment or hair mask. After styling it, my hair still felt fluffy and light (again, a huge struggle for a lot of blonde shampoos).

One of my favourite aspects of the Everpure Blonde system is its scent. So many times I fall in love with the way a system makes my hair feel, but then I end up spraying hair oils into it because I hate the smell. The products all have a really lush and luxurious scent to it that almost reminds of me of aromatherapeutic oils (y’know I’m obsessed with those). The scent is floral and calming, but still refreshing. It’s the perfect cherry on top to a collection that seriously does its job.

Meeting a haircare system that really works is like meeting a Prince Charming. Its rare, takes a lot of time to track down, but is always worth the wait when you do. No blog post is complete without a good Mel-metaphor, right?

I may not be trying to become a blonde Disney Princess anymore, but I definitely feel great in my blonde hair thanks to the Everpure Blonde System. And no matter what your hair colour is, feeling great is the most royal feeling of all.
