Why sport sweats at work? Well, here’s my philosophy…
Work kicks your ass somedays. As much as we may love our jobs, sometimes it just hates us. And sometimes our bodies hate us too (I mean, us girls do basically bleed out once a month). Sometimes the world is just totally against you. And while you’re fighting those battles with work and/or your body, the last thing you need is to be cooped up in a tight, power suit or dress. If you can’t do kung-fu in it, what use is it to you on those crappy days? The answer is sport sweats at work. Yes, I said it… sweats at work.
NB*: if you work in a super corporate environment, with a old school dress code (boo ), you may want to avoid this… unless you’re a line/button pusher like myself
Here’s how I see it (my justification to my boss and my staff for wearing sweats at work, per se): sweats are pants. They provide the same function of covering up my hoo-ha and my legs. They may just be a bit baggier, have a drawstring, and be made out of the most heavenly material ever. But if you’re comfortable at work, my philosophy is that you’ll be that much more efficient and work that much harder. Plus, I mean, it’s also in style and what business doesn’t want to be in style ?
That’s not to say you should wear your favourite, pizza-stained, sweats to work (f’real, keep those at home). But if styled correctly, no one would ever know the difference. Try pairing it up with a statement blazer, something a bit more vibrant and dressy. And of course, if all else fails, throw on your silky blouse/collared shirt. I went ballsy and went drawstring-out, but if you’re still testing the waters, have your shirt fall over it and it literally looks like any other pair of pants
I work in digital advertising, a space composed mostly of millenials, so to be fair, I haven’t had to challenge very many people with this GO-SWEATS! campaign – but I’d love to hear if you ever have! I think dressing should be a personal choice, not so far as showing up naked to a meeting, but what you feel like wearing should be your choice. Uniforms were for war, not everyday at your dream job. So dish those ugly dress pants and button ups from the generic department store and have fun with your outfits. Whether or not that means sporting sweats to work or not, I wish upon you nothing by stylish and comfy days at the office
