Unique Mother’s Day Gifts That Actually Mean Something

They say that the bond between a mother and her baby is forever, that she’s forever connected to her baby, no matter how old they get or even how they grow. I feel like I can attest to this. I never realized when I was young, but sheer amount of love and selflessness shown my by mother is one of the most inspiring things I’ve ever witnessed in my life.

So to you moms out there, you are truly the inspiring superwomen of our world. 

Mother’s Day may feel like a commercial ploy, a way to say “this is the day you should appreciate your mother”… but you and I know that everyday is a day that we should celebrate the incredible women in our lives that are our mothers. It doesn’t require gifts, and often time is the best gift we can give our moms. That said, I always love gifting my mom something. Not because she needs it, but because she’s worth, and because I want to send her a message – a message of just how she means to me. 

But with this sentiment often comes a bit of a roadblock when thinking of gifts. I never want to get her something just for the sake of it. I always want to get her something that truly means something. 

There was so much to choose from, I figured I would round up some of the best ideas that the Scarborough Town Centre inspired me with. And if you’re thinking of giving your mom a one-of-a-kind experience, take her to STC’s Flower MRKT. Stroll through the artisanal vendors, pick up a fresh bouquet of flowers, and snap a picture with her laying in a flower field in the most unexpected of locations. 

Unexpected Mother’s Day Gifts That Mean Something

Flowers might feel cliché, but I think it depends on how you go about it. Picking up a dozen roses from our corner store might feel like a cop out, but buying a bundle of lavender with the sentiment that your mom deserves rest, relaxation, and the most calming, zen day, can mean so much more. I’m opting for a succulent that says, “you might not have to water me anymore, but I live because you took care of me, and I’m a badass survivor because of it”.

I’m a huge believer of the energy of crystals. And if you or your mom are too, a beautifully packaged crystal can say “I love you” in the most unique way possible. She can keep it in her purse so that even if you don’t see each other all the time, you’re with her, and so is your energy. Or perhaps a lavender eye pillow or hand-crafted bar of soap is the perfect way to tell your mama bear… you’re worth it.

Cards are one of my favourite things to gift. Period. Write your heart out on one of these beautifully hand-crafted cards and tell mom you love her in all the words you wished you could say out loud. She’ll keep it in her memory-box forever, I promise.

Who said a diamond is the way to a woman’s heart. It’s eats for me and my mom. And these beautifully crafted sweet treats are such a perfect way to enjoy something with your mom and make her feel spoiled. 

I couldn’t NOT put jewelry on here. But instead of going flashy, find a classic, subtle piece that your mom can layer with whatever else she wants to wear. She’ll keep it close to her heart and on her that much more. Make sure you create a reason for why you picked that piece. For example, I’m looking at crescent moon earrings because my mom used to be the only person who could truly make sure I fell asleep.
