How To Host The Perfect Friendsgiving

Cups of hot cider, burnt orange leaves, and the distinct smell of fall—it’s finally here friends, my favourite season of the year. And with this season comes Thanksgiving festivities. There’s nothing Dave and I love more than an excuse to host our friends, and

we’re committed to hosting the perfect Friendsgiving this year with touches of warmth and coziness, conversation starters, and fall vibes.

We focussed on our tablescape in the home for Friendsgiving, because there’s nothing better to inspire the season of gratitude than bringing friends together around a good meal and great conversation. It brings the focus to the centre of everyone at the table, everyone is included, and it makes for creating the perfect seasonal statement.
After multiple Pinterest boards, we nailed down the look and feel we wanted to go for. We maintained a few key themes when we were putting everything together to share our tips on creating the perfect Friendsgiving.

Opt for timeless touches

There’s nothing better than adding a few seasonal accents to your home decor each festive season. For Friendsgiving, focus on adding warm, cozy, Thanksgiving-inspired touches to decor that won’t only last through this season, but will extend further into others. Consider accents like wood, warm tones, and cozy fabrics to create a Friendsgiving tablescape that’s both timeless and re-usable for other seasons. We’re obsessed with this acacia wood pedestal, half marble half wood board, linen napkins, and wired brass napkin holders; and even more obsessed with the fact that we don’t have to throw them into storage after the season is done. They add the perfect warmth to your Friendsgiving tablescape while being timeless pieces of decor you can use season after season.

Add festive accents

To compliment your timeless touches, we love adding a few extra-festive items to the mix to add that pop of Friendsgiving. If your home doesn’t have a lot of storage, consider items that add festive flair without taking up too much space. We fell in love with these burnt orange tea towels that say “Good Morning Pumpkin.” They add a festive vibe to your kitchen, and also add a colourful accent to the table. Throw in a few organic items like greenery, small white pumpkins, or acorns, and your tablescape will feel both festive and timeless.

Gather together

When it comes to food, there’s nothing we love more than serving family-style. We love having all of the dishes in the centre of the table, and our guests gathered around it. There’s nothing that inspires gratitude and “thankful” vibes like being  together to share a great meal. We love creating a theme, such as Thanksgiving Traditions, and encouraging our guests to bring a dish that represents their favourite Thanksgiving tradition. It inspires great conversation, and we always end up learning more about our friends. Consider adding serving platters and décor pieces that pull everyone’s focus to the centre of the table.

Get the conversation started

We always love adding a bit of cheekiness to our tablescapes, because we find they’re often conversation starters. One of the things we love doing is creating a funky (unique?) cheese board to surprise our guests. We switch up the cheeses each time and try to find unique types that will keep our guests guessing. Gold cheese markers and a copper marble knives set are the perfect addition to our cheese boards, and add a bit of cheekiness to the table.

Share the responsibility

Although there’s nothing we love more than hosting our guests, a gathering, like Friendsgiving, can often be a large responsibility. The season of gratitude and thanks is the perfect time to share entertaining responsibilities, so consider asking everyone to bring a dish they love to the table. It will make the meal feel like it was created by all of you, and thanks and gratitude will be given and received by everyone involved.

Whether it’s your first time hosting Friendsgiving or you’re a veteran, we hope these tips help get you into the spirit and feel inspired by the festive season that’s filled with cozy vibes, gratitude, and, above all, great friends and great conversation. Happy Friendsgiving!
